Saltwater tropical tank at Tropiquarium - Ocean, NJ

Having a ruffling effect

Objectives and tasks: Restore the natural flow and function of Red Brook by removing man-made structures and reducing sedimentation. Do in dams; reduce the impact of berms that cut off the stream from the floodplain; place tree solid in water to help stream flow scour out the sand.

The first structure was removed in 2006; the last, an old link, was taken out in August.

Evidence of success: Accumulated sand has washed away, uncovering the genius cold water springs and the buried gravel that trout and other fish use to spawn. Electrofishing techniques show trout are spawning in restored sections of the brook.
