Easy hard coral help? - 3reef Forums
Okay, my tank is green, about 6 weeks, but most the wobble was a few months hang up-curing in another tank of mine. I have a 56 gallon (which is 24" steep) tank with a 12" form toll hood that puts my 175W MH bulb about 8 inches off the top. The highest finished core in the tank is 10" from the covering, so about 18" from the halide. I'm looking to get my first hard coral, I've got a mushroom, some zoos, and rural principal polyps that are doing quaint, but I'm still critical about hard corals....

For soft corals VHO lighting will be fine. Hard corals mostly outside of certain species as suncoral need much stronger to lighting using metal halide is the best bet. If you only plan on keeping soft corals that you can do well with the VHO power compact fluorescent. Stony Coral for the most part, is much more difficult to hold and there was much more demand for high quality lighting. Not to say that soft corals would do best in a bad light by saying that if you simply want to keep soft coral and not the hard corals that there isn't as great a need for metal halide.
"To adequately inform reef aquariums 24 inches deep, the plan on the supply of 4 at 6 watts of light per gallon of water. Aquariums of shallow reefs (less than 16 inches deep), and reef aquariums specifically designed for low light or non-photosynthetic corals and invertebrates do not require the intensities of large aquariums. However, under no circumstances should you provide corals and invertebrates with photosynthetic less than two watts of light per gallon of water, and they will not have enough light to survive. "

If you see every coral you want on the next page, you will indicate the level of care needs in lighting, water flow and so on.

NOT all corals need light Very High Output.
I kept Softies and some species of corals in large polyp stony T12 fluorescent lighting but you need enough of them and the tubes allowed to do. (SOFT SHOP Lights not white)
In your 10gal., 60w would be great, but make sure you have the right spectrum of light.
i love zoos
they are very easy to take care of
they live in colonies and reproduce very fast
overall easy and beautiful
